SEBASTOPOL Vikings passed a significant milestone in their 2015 campaign with Saturday’s draw againstSurf Coast.
The Vikings eclipsed the tally of 25 points they reached last season aftera come-from-behind 3-3 result in Torquay.
Franck Labakohler put the Sebastopol boys in front early in the first half, before two goals by the home side saw it leading 2-1 at the break. Surf Coast capitalised on a defensive error byRyan Rykers –who slipped on the wet turf –shortly after the restart, however, the Vikings hit back throughAlexAntonelli, who found the net around 68 minutes.
GOAL SCORER: Franck Labakohler.
A straight red card for a foul as the last defender left Surf Coast a man down for the final10 or so minutes of the match, and it proved costlyasLuke Swards scored soon after to tie the scores and give the Vikings a sniff of a late winner.
However, it was not to be as both teams settled for a share of the points.
Sebastopol coach Michael Busija told The Courier he was disappointed not to come away with the victory –believing the team’s performance was a “little bit off” -but remained pleased with the way his side fought back from a 3-1 deficit early in the second half.
Busija said the fact his team had passed its points tally of 2014 was the “minimum expectation” for the season achieved.
“We’re moving forward and that’s whatwe want as a football club,” Busija said.
Busijasaid he told his players after the game that it was now up to them on whether they wanted to improve by a bit or improve by a lot in 2015.
The Vikings have six games left until the end of the season and now look forward to hostingKeilor Wolves at Morshead Park next Saturday.
